GCU Evening Classes -  Phoenix, AZ:

  • Courses are in-person and on-campus and are offered once a week in the evening

Course: Counseling Skills

This course provides a broad understanding of counseling processes, including characteristics and behaviors that influence the helping processes. Included are age, gender, ethnic differences, verbal and nonverbal behaviors, personal characteristics, and orientations. The development of counseling techniques is emphasized, including establishing and maintaining the counseling relationship; diagnosing and identifying the problem; formulating a preventative, treatment, or rehabilitative plan; facilitating appropriate interventions; and successfully terminating the counseling relationship.

What You Will Do:

  • Facilitate classroom lecture and discussions
  • Engage students in learning course objectives and topics
  • Assess student performance and mentor success in the classroom
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission of Grand Canyon University

What You Will Bring:

  • Doctorate in Counseling OR
    • Clinical or Counseling Psychology OR
    • Marriage and Family Therapy OR
    • Behavioral Health or Mental Health
  • AND Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) OR
    • Licensed Independent Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) OR
    • Independent Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)
  • AND 2 years of clinical experience and/or experience in Counselor Education
  • Master’s degree in the above areas
  • AND 5 years of work experience as an independent licensed counselor in the above areas
