Shape the bright futures of Grand Canyon University students as an adjunct faculty member for the traditional ground campus in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, which provides a job focused education.  The college features a variety of programs from counseling and psychology to justice studies, history and English literature.

As an adjunct faculty member, you’ll provide program instruction incorporating innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies and other industry trends reflecting advancements in your discipline.  If you are highly motivated and passionate about teaching exceptional quality instruction in modern facilities with smaller class sizes, we’d like to hear from you. 

Course Description: (Multiple Courses)

PCN-100 - Foundations of Addiction and Substance Use Disorders

This course provides foundational knowledge regarding addiction and substance use disorders. Topics studied include biopsychosocial dynamics; stages, processes, and impact of addiction and substance use; and the role of the addiction professional in prevention, intervention, relapse prevention, and aftercare. In addition, the course provides overviews of the substance abuse counselor's code of ethics, HIPAA, and legal issues involved in counseling.

PCN-162 - Grp Interventions & Comm Resources for Addiction & Substance Use Disorders

This course provides foundational knowledge in the study of group dynamics, stages, and processes. Students learn the importance of screening, intervention, and leadership styles in effective group interventions. Self-help groups and community resources are explored. Prerequisites:

PCN-265 - Relapse Prevention in the Treatment of Addiction and Substance Use Disorder

This course focuses on relapse prevention. Identifying potential triggers for relapse and developing relapse prevention plans are explored. Students are provided with strategies for connecting their clients with community resources..

PCN-485 - Advanced Case Management for Addiction and Substance Use Disorders

This course provides advanced study in case management. Students examine case studies on addiction and substance use disorders to develop knowledge and skill in screening, intake, assessment, treatment planning, record keeping, report writing, referral, and case management.

Must be available to teach at lease one class on the below days and times - Spring semester begins on 1/7/2019

PCN-100 - Monday, Wednesday and Friday's - Starting at 9:50am

PCN-162 - Monday, Wednesday and Friday's - Starting at 3:20pm

PCN-265 - Tuesday and Thursday's - Starting at 9:00am

PCN-485 - Monday, Wednesday and Friday's - Starting at 9:50am


Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing student performance and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession.  Other main responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.


  • Minimum: Masters (or higher) in Professional Counseling or Mental Health Counseling or Addiction Counseling or Clinical Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy from a regionally accredited university AND current Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or current Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor or current Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Counselor AND 2 years of clinical experience in addictions. Exceptions may be granted to individuals with a current Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or current Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor or current Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Counselor AND 2 years of clinical experience in addictions AND Masters or Doctorate in any related field.
